When I first heard this album it sounded like it had been recorded with basic equipment, with distorted vocal and muffled sound, which makes it sound like it coming from another world.I know people who still prefer that version but the remaster makes it sound like you're in a modern studio and somehow that vocal distortion is no longer there. I've said it before but Specialist to me comes across as group who haven't played together for a long time and if you're going for their reunion period their most recent Tribute to Ndiouga Dieng is the way to go.Pirates Choice is their opus and the 2 CD edition sound wise is remarkably different than the original World Circuit release. Specialists in all styles is my favorite world music album off all times.I think their hypnotic style have an appeal on Grateful Dead fans since the contibuted 2 tracks to the tribute Day of the DeadHere is a later day version of the orchestra with their new guitarist. They made a lot of great albums on the world circuit label. I saw them when masterguitarist Bartholemy Atisso was stil in the band. I have seen this excellent band live twice and they are really fantastic. All twelve tracks are now presented with improved sound, re-mastered from the original session tapes'.Lovers of Ry Cooder's themed albums, and admirers of Cuban & African influenced rhythms should check these recordings out pronto, that is if you haven't done so already. This new edition also includes the remaining six tracks from the original sessions, again for the first time on CD.
